Duminda Sampath Wijayarathne
“Finding my talents being connected to my passion was one of the greatest life achievements,” says Duminda, a 38 years old guest house owner whose story you are about to read.
Duminda had served as a Supervisor for a tea manufacturing company for eight years in Sri Lanka and five years in Dubai. Five years ago, he found hidden creations in sack yarn which ignited his passion.
“Sack yarn is a readily available raw material, very plain and dull at a glance. That gives a lot of space for creativity. Day by day, I enjoyed imagining, designing, and finally producing a breathtaking souvenir out of it,” He explains.
Duminda’s Sack Yarn products have been in the market for over five years. Each of his creations is unique and made from authentic local raw materials, including
- Sack yarn
- Jute
- Coconut husks
- Cardboard
- Wood
- Sea shells and small corals
- Madatiya seeds
As a lodge owner, he had experienced a rising demand from his international and local guests for his creations.
“This product chain was one of my main income sources when Sri Lanka flourished in its travel and tourism field. But now, its crisis had made us rethink new strategies to redeem the great market we lost.” He is looking forward to introducing his products directly into the international market through Ceylon Emporium.
